Swiss Researchers Achieve Breakthrough: New Holographic 3D Printing Boosts Efficiency 70×
According to China Energy Network, on May 19 the research team at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) published a paper in Light: Science & Applications announcing a major breakthrough in holographic 3D printing technology. The team introduced a phase light modulator into the volumetric printing system for the first time, successfully raising light-energy efficiency to 70 times that of conventional amplitude modulation. Unlike traditional layer-by-layer deposition, this technique irradiates a rotating photosensitive resin container with a laser, allowing the entire three-dimensional structure to "grow" inside the volume in a single pass. Experiments showed that the system, using only a 150 mW laser diode, printed a human ear model comparable to a real ear in just 2 minutes and 12 seconds. Moreover, the technique maintains high precision in bio-materials containing living cells, opening up new possibilities for organ printing in the biomedical field.
